2013 545-hp Nissan GT-R Needs Just 2.7 Seconds to hit 60 mph!
How is the the 2013 Nissan GT-R so quick? Partially thanks to the addition of even more power. The engine now generates 545 horsepower and 463 lb-ft of torque -- both going up by 15 from the 2012's 530 and 448 -- and produces beefier top end torque response right up to the 7000rpm redline. The 2013 revision also incorporates more efficient cooling ducts for the front brakes, slip-resistant seats, and a Track-Pack option that shaves over 200 pound in weight. Mizuno also stressed that his car generates these neck-snapping numbers by using an even leaner mixture of fuel than before.

2013 BMW M5 may have more horsepower than reported
With the 2013 BMW M5 finally going on sale in the U.S., we definitely saw this coming. BimmerBoost recently got a hold of engine dyno run for the new M5, and is reporting that the car's twin-turbo V8 is "severely" underrated.

Officially, the M5's 4.4-liter V8 is rated at 560 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque, but the dyno graph reveals numbers at the rear wheels to be 527 hp and 476 lb-ft in completely stock form. While the idea of the engine being underrated is just an assumption, the general rule of thumb is a 15-percent drivetrain loss – if accurate, the new M5's losses would be just six percent. Using the 15-percent rule, the 2013 M5 would lay down 476 hp at the wheels.

The idea of BMW underrating its engine outputs is nothing new. Earlier this year, the new 328i show some impressive numbers of its own.

2014 Mazda Mazda6 Preview
2014 Mazda Mazda6 Preview
The 2014 Mazda6 has been in production for almost a month, but only now has Mazda released all the details on the new car. The vehicle, which is due in showrooms early next year, is the second of a new generation of Mazdas that feature fuel-saving SKYACTIV technology and the ‘KODO - Soul of Motion’ design theme. In case you were wondering, the first was the CX-5 compact SUV.

Two powertrain options have been revealed thus far on the 2014 Mazda6, both of them four-cylinder gasoline engines. They include a SKYACTIV-G 2.0-liter rated at 134 horsepower and 155 pound-feet of torque, and a SKYACTIV-G 2.5-liter rated at 189 horsepower and 189 pound-feet of torque.

While both engines feature Mazda’s i-stop engine stop-start technology, the bigger unit also features Mazda’s i-ELOOP brake energy recovery system. Essentially a mild-hybrid system that uses lightweight capacitors to store electrical energy recovered from braking (instead of batteries), the i-ELOOP system takes some of the load off the car’s engine by using this stored energy to power ancillary features such as the air conditioning, audio system and lights.

Ferrari finishes revamping U.S. lineup
TURIN, Italy -- With the launch next year in the United States of the F12 Berlinetta, a production model with the power of a Formula One race car, Ferrari will complete a frantic renewal of its entire lineup that began in 2009.

Just one more limited-edition model is in the works. A successor to the Enzo supercar, scheduled for showrooms next year, will have more than 900 hp, Italian press reports say.

2013 Porsche Boxster
2013 Porsche Boxster
Porsche’s most affordable sports car offering, the Boxster roadster, has been on the market in the United States since 1996. Refreshed for the 2005 model year, the Boxster had become somewhat stale in its middle-age years, prompting Porsche to pen a thorough redesign for the 2013 model year.

The all-new 2013 Boxster is lighter, stiffer, more responsive and more refined, both inside and out, than the model it replaces. It boasts more aggressive bodywork; a cabin with higher quality materials and better noise isolation; improved fuel efficiency and better handling when the road throws you a curve.

While engine displacement hasn’t changed for 2013, both Boxster and Boxster S models get a bump in both output and in fuel economy. The 2.7-liter flat-six in the Boxster is now rated at 265 horsepower (from 255 last year), while the 3.4-liter flat-six in the Boxster S is rated at 315 horsepower (up from 310). Porsche claims that fuel economy is up by 15 percent in both models, but enthusiasts will probably care more about the car’s improved acceleration and handling. Expect 0-60 mph to take 5.5 seconds in the Boxster, with the Boxster S hitting the mile-per-minute mark in 4.8 seconds.

2013 Audi A7
2013 Audi A7
The four-door coupe seems to be all the rage these days, given the wide range of models available. Buyers can choose from the Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class, the BMW 6-Series Gran Coupe, the Porsche Panamera or even the more affordably priced Volkswagen CC. While there may be no shortage of choices, Audi’s A7 is arguably among the most most stylish options available.

Based on the Audi A6 sedan, the A7 sports a boldly revised exterior design that’s defined by its plunging fastback roofline and coupe-like C-pillar. While the front isn’t dramatically different than the A6, the rear styling of the A7 is unlike anything else in Audi’s current catalog, making the A7 the poster child for individual expression in a luxury four-door coupe.

Toyota Introduces Camry SE Sport Limited Edition; Bundles Extras for a Discount
Toyota Introduces Camry SE Sport Limited Edition; Bundles Extras for a Discount
Toyota has announced a new special-edition Camry variant for 2012 called the SE Sport Limited Edition. Basically, the unique model is a regular, four-cylinder Camry SE (the sportiest trim level in the Camry lineup) loaded with several optional extras and a set of 18-inch wheels that are otherwise only available on the six-cylinder SE model.

Essentially, the Sport Limited Edition groups the SE’s $2405 “Display Audio with Navigation and Entune” package with the SE V6’s dark-gray-colored 18-inch wheels, which replace the four-cylinder car’s puny 17s. The awkwardly named Display Audio and Navigation and Entune bundle includes a 6.1-inch touch-screen audio system with navigation and Toyota’s Entune infotainment gear, as well as a power driver’s seat and a sunroof. A regular four-pot SE equipped with this package will run you $26,420, but the Sport Limited Edition with all of that equipment, plus the upmarket wheels, is being offered for just $370 more.

2013 Ford Fusion Gets EPA Ratings, 1.6 EcoBoost Scores 25/37
Forty may be the new thirty. Where five years ago automakers would advertise the impressive 30-ish-mpg-highway rating of a mid-size family sedan, we’ve reached a point where new models are breaking into the high 30s. Nissan’s brand-new Altima, for example, is rated for 27 mpg city and 38 on the highway. The Ford Fusion, also all-new for 2013, is ready to jump into the somewhat-pedantic battle for mid-size mileage supremacy. These are the just-released EPA ratings for the 2013 Fusion.

The most fuel-conscious numbers come from the Fusion hybrid, of course, with 47/47 ratings. It lands just a little behind the Toyota Prius, America’s most-popular hybrid by far, which is rated at 51/48. Among those Fusions not aided by a battery pack and electric motor, here’s the breakdown by powertrain:

170-hp, 2.5-liter inline-four, with six-speed automatic: 22/34
179-hp 1.6-liter turbocharged four, with six-speed manual: 25/37
179-hp 1.6-liter turbocharged four, with six-speed automatic: 23/36
237-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged four, with six-speed automatic: 22/33
237-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged four, with six-speed automatic and all-wheel drive: 22/31

Although the Fusion 1.6 EcoBoost will be offered with an optional engine stop-start system, it’s not factored into these EPA numbers.
The EPA ratings position the Fusion alongside or even ahead of the competition in most categories. The 178-hp Toyota Camry 2.5, which lines up against the Fusion 1.6 EcoBoost with automatic, is rated at 25/35. At the other end of the spectrum, the several-year-old, about-to-be-replaced Honda Accord is offered with a 271-hp V-6 and still is rated at 20/30

2013 Lexus LS 460 goes more intense, more sporty and more luxurious
2013 Lexus LS 460 goes more intense, more sporty and more luxurious
It's been leak city for the 2013 Lexus LS line, allowing us to catch the exteriors of the LS 460 L and LS 460 F Sport from practically every angle. The spindle grille might be the most prominent story of the refreshed LS – otherwise there are no monumental changes to the body, but plenty of details did decide to wait for the Lexus luxury flagship's official unveiling in San Francisco.

As we've stated, there are now four flavors of LS from which to choose: the LS 460, LS 460 L, LS 460 F Sport in either or rear- or all-wheel drive and the AWD LS 600hL hybrid. All of them are more rigid thanks to additional body reinforcements and laser screw welding.

Inside, a 12.3-inch nav screen with split-screen capability immediately gets the eye's attention, and surrounding it is something we've not yet encountered in the LS: what Lexus calls "a driver-focused interior." The Remote Touch system places the 'mouse' controller next to the shift level, and in conjunction with steering-wheel controls can operate many of the car's features, and up to five driving modes are possible if buyers choose the optional air suspension. Shock absorbers have been redesigned to improve pitch and bounce control, the variable ratio steering is said to improve accuracy and turn-in and the brakes have been adjusted to provide better power and pedal feel.

Passengers haven't been left out of the pampering, with the Lexus Climate Concierge controlling the ambient temperature, seat temperature and steering wheel temperature to comfort each occupant individually. Safety gets a boost with an available new Blind Spot Monitor, in operation from 10 mph and part of a system that can detect crossing traffic behind the car when reversing out of a spot. Convenience takes a step up with redesigned seats, more sound insulation "for an even quieter cabin," which we weren't sure was even possible, noise-reducing wheels, and an optional Ottoman Seating Package with Shiatsu Massage, because, well, why not.

The LS 460 F Sport is the halo range topper meant to give the whole line some additional cachet. Its F Sport tweaks outside and underneath include being lowered by almost half an inch, a sport-minded tune for the air suspension, 19-inch forged wheels hiding Brembo six-pot calipers up front, and a Torsen limited-slip differential on the RWD model. Inside it gets heavily bolstered seats, paddle shifters and aluminum trim.

BMW Announces 2013 X1 Good for Up to 24 MPG City, 33 MPG Highway
BMW Announces 2013 X1 Good for Up to 24 MPG City, 33 MPG Highway
BMW has announced mileage figures for the 2013 X1 crossover, and the high-riding wagon is as fuel-thrifty as the new-for-2012 3-series sedan. The X1 has been on sale in Europe for a few years, but for 2013 BMW gave the crossover a midcycle refresh and sent it our way for the first time. It will be available with two turbocharged engines—a 240-hp 2.0-liter four and a 300-hp 3.0-liter inline-six—that both hook up to eight-speed automatics. Buyers can spec their four-cylinder X1 with either rear- or all-wheel drive, and the six-cylinder X1 is available only with all-wheel drive.

The rear-wheel-drive X1 sDrive28i is rated for 24 mpg in the city and 33 on the highway, and the all-wheel-drive xDrive28i manages 22 and 30 mpg city/highway. The burlier turbo six nets a respectable—given its power—18 mpg in the city and 27 on the highway. The sDrive28i matches the highway figure of the new automatic-equipped 328i sedan, which is powered by the same turbo four; the sDrive28i bests its city number by 1 mpg. The X1 matches up to its key competition as well. Currently, only Acura’s redesigned 2013 RDX can be considered a real competitor to BMW’s small luxury crossover, but soon Audi will send us its Q3 for 2014, and Mercedes-Benz is planning a sub-GLK-sized crossover based on the new A-class’s front-drive architecture.
